Sunshine Coast service delivers shortcut for travellers

Sunshine Coast Flights

Business travellers heading to and from the Sunshine Coast can now benefit from seamless connections to Europe, Asia and America.

At the beginning of April, Qantas launched a new second daily direct morning service to/from Sydney and the Sunshine Coast airport.

The new Qantas flights depart from the Sunshine Coast at 12.45pm and arrive into Sydney at 2.30pm, to connect with afternoon and evening international flights out of Sydney. Meanwhile, 15 Qantas early morning flights arriving into Sydney from Europe, Asia, America and New Zealand connect with the new Sunshine Coast departure time of 10.30am. The new services offer single-ticket itineraries for international travel.

Apart from benefitting local travellers heading overseas, the flights have the potential to encourage more international travellers and groups to head to the thriving Sunshine Coast for business and conferences. The seamless new routing means travellers can now get to the coast with the one ticket and with one airline.

Already international travellers are flocking to the Sunshine Coast with the latest figures showing they spent $246.5M in the region last year. Tourism Research Australia data shows visitors numbers were up 3.5 percent on the previous year with 71,000 visitors from New Zealand, 61,000 from the UK, 23,000 from the US and 31,000 from Asia.

The new daily Qantas services linking the coast with flights from Asia, Europe, America and New Zealand, will also give inbound passengers a more convenient route to the coast.

Plus this is all ahead of the new Sunshine Coast airport expansion currently underway, which when finished will host direct international flights in just a few years.
