FCM Year in Review 2019

FCM has experienced 2019 as the year of the business traveller, flexible business travel policies, disruptive technologies and an empowered, savvy workforce are the current hallmarks of corporate travel with a growing need to put people first, as inflexibility and outdated rules threaten traveller compliance.

Furthermore, corporate travel programmes are having to segment their travellers and move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to deliver greater value to their workforce, which in turn encourages them to comply with the corporate travel programme goals.

In 2019 we saw the following trends for FCM:

  • 64 336 travellers moved
  • With the top 6 destinations being:
    • South Africa
    • Botswana
    • Zambia
    • Mozambique
    • United Kingdom
    • Namibia
  • 53.4% domestic flights, 33.9% Africa flights and 12.7% International Flights
  • 80% of travel managers realise the importance of data collection and interpretation in travel

We are expecting to see more technological innovations in 2020 for FCM. One, in particular, is hyper-connectivity in business travel. Virtual assistants, Sam:] AI enhancements, live video and seamless travel touchpoints all added to the business traveller’s journey. The prospect of unlimited data through5G is critical in this space. Faster networks through 5G will deliver increased speed and a greater amount of data, changing how travellers move around the world. 5G will deliver more advanced connected devices and increased personalisation through Artificial Intelligence.  The main goal will be to find the balance between security and seamless travel.

Here is an overview of our travel indicators for the year.
