FCTG’S Reconciliation Action Plan

FCM Travel, along with our parent company Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG), has always been committed to inclusivity. We are a business built for people—all people. Diversity is who we are, and our company makeup spans cultures, genders, sexual orientations, religions, beliefs, and identities.

So, when we took the first formal step on our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) journey in 2022, it was a natural progression of our values. Fast forward to 2025, and we’re proud to be working through the second phase of our RAP. Stronger, informed, and committed more than ever.

“We’ve learned that true reconciliation isn’t about ticking boxes, it’s about challenging ourselves to create real, lasting change. Our RAP is a testament to that journey.” Lynne Mailata, First Nations Inclusion Leader

What is a RAP?

Launched in 2006 by Reconciliation Australia, a RAP is designed to enable organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation. RAP’s provide businesses a structured framework that helps turn good intentions into action, with clear goals, measurable outcomes, and accountability. Plans must be developed in consultation with Aboriginal stakeholders and provide tangible and substantive benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

There are four plan types—Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate—allowing organisations to move through the journey and continuously develop their reconciliation commitments. At FCTG, we’re proud to be on our second Innovate RAP. Focusing on deepening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, engaging our people, and influencing change across the broader industry.

“With close to 3 million people now either working or studying in an organisation with a RAP, the program’s potential for impact is greater than ever. Flight Centre Travel Group continues to be part of a strong network of more than 3,000 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have taken goodwill and transformed it into action.” Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer Reconciliation Australia

What we've done and what we're building on

Since launching our RAP in 2022, we’ve rolled out many actions with deliverable outcomes. Some of the main initiatives include:

  • Forming a RAP working group and employee-led Yarning Circle

  • Appointing our First Nations Inclusion Leader

  • Hosting cultural awareness training for leadership teams

  • Launching Cultural Awareness Training module for all staff

  • Encouraging Acknowledgement of Country signage in our stores

  • Creating a First Nations Engagement Guidebook for suppliers

  • Holding National Reconciliation Week (NRW) events and panels

  • Organising on Country immersion experiences in partnership with Intrepid

  • Donating $65,000 to FareShare’s Meals for the Mob program

But that was just the beginning. Learn more about the actions we have taken here.

Learning’s and what’s next

With the foundation laid, we’ve sharpened our focus in this next phase of our Innovate RAP.

“An integral part of building these foundations is reflecting on and cataloguing the successes and challenges of previous RAPs. Learnings gained through effort and innovation are invaluable resources that Flight Centre Travel Group will continuously draw upon to create RAP commitments rooted in experience and maturity.” Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer Reconciliation Australia

Looking ahead, we’re focusing on:

  • Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices in our business

  • Building long-term partnerships, not one-off projects

  • Organising and hosting multiple events during key reconciliation weeks

  • Allocating resources and budgets that reflect our commitment

  • Ongoing education across all levels of the business

  • Educating suppliers and collaborating with like-minded organisations

  • Improving employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

As James Kavanagh, FCTG Australia Managing Director, puts it, “While we are pleased with how far we have come in our reconciliation journey, there is always more to be done. In this second iteration of our RAP, we strive to build on the work to date by offering real opportunities to benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”
