Emissions measurement and CO2 reporting

Carbon data is captured the moment a booking is confirmed, then rolled up to dashboards. See your business travel carbon footprint by traveller, route, department, or across the entire organisation.

Sustainable travel policy guidelines

Your account manager helps you write travel policy rules. They are built into our technology and into our consultants’ training. For example: “Require approval for flights where rail is an option.” No policy yet? Start with one rule and build from there.

Supplier selection and criteria

FCM's technology and our consultants prioritise what you want to be displayed or chosen first, such as sustainable travel options, or a policy choice such as to push rail instead of flights.

Frequently asked questions about sustainable business travel

  • What is sustainable business travel?

Sustainable business travel means planning, booking and measuring work trips so that emissions are tracked and reduced, without stopping people from travelling when they need to. With FCM, emissions data, travel policy and supplier choices are built into every booking. Your travellers see the options, and you decide which ones come first.

  • How can you reduce business travel emissions?

Start by measuring, then change what emits most. Set rules for when a trip needs approval, for example requiring approval for flights where rail is an option. With FCM you follow emissions by traveller, route or department in your dashboard and update your policy as requirements change.

  • How do you calculate carbon emissions from business travel?

The most common method multiplies the distance travelled by an emission factor for each mode of transport. Spend-based estimates are an option when distance data is missing, but they are less precise. Booking data gives the best basis. With FCM, carbon data is captured the moment a booking is confirmed.

  • How does business travel fit into scope 3?

Business travel is scope 3, category 6 in the GHG Protocol. It covers flights, rail, rental cars and taxis in vehicles your company does not own or operate, and hotel stays can be included as an option. Travel in company-owned vehicles belongs in scope 1. FCM brings the data from your bookings together, ready for reporting.

  • How do you write a sustainable travel policy?

Set clear rules for when a trip is needed and how it is made. Include emissions thresholds, approval requirements and who follows up. One example: require approval for flights where rail is an option. Your FCM account manager helps you write the rules, and they are built into the booking technology. No policy yet? Start with one rule and build from there.

  • What does CSRD mean for business travel?

Companies in scope of CSRD report on their scope 3 emissions where they are material, and business travel is part of that category. Your FCM account manager prepares the underlying travel data ahead of reporting deadlines, not after.

  • Does my company have to report under CSRD?

The EU sets the framework, and each Nordic country turns it into national law, so the rules can differ and are still changing. Check the current requirements with your auditor. Even if you are not in scope, customers and financiers can still ask for your travel emissions data.

  • Can FCM help if we are not covered by CSRD?

Yes. FCM works with companies of all sizes, whether you are just getting started or already reporting. Emissions data, policy and supplier choices sit in the same place, so the data is ready when someone asks.
