The start of 2019 delivered hotel rate reductions in many cities across New Zealand and Australia. The first-quarter rate trends for 2019, according to FCM’s specialist consulting division 4D, indicate business travellers would have paid less on average per night for accommodation in numerous cities.
4D has compared average room rates in the first quarter of 2019 to the same period in 2018. The results point to an average room rate increase of +4.1% for the quarter across New Zealand.
However, room rates in some New Zealand and Australian cities continued to rise. Two of New Zealand’s major city hubs experienced significant increases.
