Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies (BCT) is a multinational biosciences company and a global leader in blood component, therapeutic apheresis, and cellular technologies.
Prior to COVID-19, Terumo BCT were dealing with the impacts of program leakage and fragmented traveler behavior on the organization’s ability to leverage the best rates, achieve spend visibility and track travelers in case of incident.
The pandemic meant that, although cost reductions and employee engagement was essential, the ways to achieve them had changed drastically. Terumo BCT wanted to attain savings by focusing on traveler behaviors without mandating travel; to offer travelers a great experience and achieve integrated global reporting and consolidation.
Engaging with travelers
Terumo BCT travelers were engaged through a series of webinars delivering travel tips and safety during COVID-19, supported by FCM return to travel tool kits and multi-channel communication.
431% of travelers downloaded the FCM Sam mobile app which allows them to make, change, or cancel a booking, provides custom travel alerts and assistance when required.
Big savings on hotel program
FCM negotiated 40 hotel contracts that produced hotel program savings of 21%. Despite the pandemic, cost savings initiatives were maintained by shifting focus to unused tickets, applying refunds, and providing data on cost avoidance.
Together with re-negotiated hotel rates, Terumo will see a significant impact on savings as travel picks up post-pandemic.
