Air Canada to launch new Dublin and Shannon routes

Air Canada has announced new services between Dublin and Montreal and Shannon and Toronto, beginning in June 2018.

Air Canada announced expanded seasonal services to Ireland with new non-stop flights from Toronto to Shannon and between Montreal and Dublin. The flights will be operated using Air Canada's newest single-aisle aircraft, the Boeing 737 Max 8 featuring a Business and Economy cabin configuration.

The routes are part of a major expansion of the airline's Irish services. Along with these new services, Air Canada will also boost its non-stop Dublin-Toronto service, increasing frequencies from the end of October to four times per week from three, and flying every day next summer. It will also transfer this service to Air Canada itself from its leisure carrier, Air Canada Rouge.

The airline will resume its non-stop Dublin-Vancouver flights next summer and will offer customers amenities such as fully lie flat suites in International Business Class, a Premium Economy cabin and seatback in-flight entertainment throughout the Airbus A330 aircraft that will fly this route.

Mr Smith, President Passenger Airlines at Air Canada, said that the airline wanted to capitalise on the increased traffic between the two countries.
“Taken together, Air Canada will offer the best market coverage of any carrier between Ireland and Canada”.

The announcements come as travel between Ireland and Canada, and indeed North America as a whole, continues to boom.

"Last year, Canada delivered a record 203,000 visitors to the island of Ireland, an increase of 11% on the previous year. In fact, visitor numbers from Canada have grown by almost 28% since 2014," said Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons.
Dana Welch, Tourism Ireland's Manager Canada, said: "We are excited about the new routes and expansion of existing Air Canada service. The increase provides a major boost for both leisure and business tourism from Canada to the island of Ireland. Tourism Ireland looks forward to working closely with Air Canada and the Shannon and Dublin airports to drive demand for the new flights. As an island destination, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism."
