New migration policy offers opportunity for SA business travel

It has been reported that the South African government is moving ahead with plans for new migration policy for the country, indicating its serious intention to have a Bill drafted by early 2018.  The Bill aims to address the country’s current legislation which is outdated.

The White Paper recommends policy interventions in eight areas, including the management of admissions and departures in the country. According to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), this will see visa requirements relaxed for certain nationals and categories of international migrants – including frequent travellers, academics and business people.

“Business should be excited over this legislation as it seeks to address some of the biggest roadblocks that currently exist when it comes to attracting the right skills into the country,” Colaco says, adding that, with this policy, it should be easier to attract top talent and then also retain it in the country.

Moreover, as the movement of people into and out of the country will be far better managed under new legislation, business travellers would, in all probability, find it easier to move across the continent.

Colaco advises corporates that travel extensively, to keep abreast of developments about the White Paper, saying that business will be invited to provide input and feedback on the various acts.
