Flights To Tanzania Set To Increase Due To New Security Fee

The Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA) has introduced a new security fee on all domestic and international flights in the country. From October 1, air travellers will pay an additional TZS5 000 (R32+-) for domestic flights and R73+- for international flights on their ticket prices.

The new levy is earmarked for security improvements, including buying modern metal detectors, and while the Tanzania Air Operators Association (TAOA) told The Citizen they are happy with the fee, they are concerned about the lack of time given to airlines to adjust their ticket prices to include the new levy.

Currently, departure taxes on aircraft in Tanzania is TZS13 000 (R81+-) for domestic and $49 (R700+-) for international, passenger service charges are TZS10 000 (R62+-) and $40 (R570+-) respectively.
